In addition to raising mini cows, we also raise goats, chickens, rabbits, quail, ducks, and pigs.
It's no surprise people are drawn to country living. Even those who live in the "city", when they come visit our farm, the most common statement we hear is "It's so nice out here!" And our definition of "nice" that they are talking about is peaceful, quiet, and relaxing to name a few. The idea of farm living, homesteading, and raising farm animals as pets has become more and more popular the past few years. And with good reason since rural, country living is fun and has great benefits for the whole family!
Did you know that studies show that raising farm animals keeps you happier and healthier?
Just a few benefits of keeping farm animals are:
* Lower stress levels
* Better immunity health
* Improved physical health
While different animals require different things, it's interesting to learn what each one needs to live a happy and healthy life. Take a look below at our other animals on the farm and interesting facts about each of them.
Chickens are a must for any homestead or hobby farm. They are the perfect starter animal. They are hardy and low maintenance. We love getting fresh eggs daily.
We have grown to love backyard ducks. We love watching them gobble their food, splash in their water and waddle around the yard. They give us delicious eggs too!
Eleanor "Ellie" and Mr. Hamilton "Ham" joined the farm in the fall 2022. Ellie (spotted) is a Juliana Kune Kune and Ham (pink) is a Micro Potbelly.
Our rabbits, Raisin and Pepper, are sweet, cuddly and love it when we give them extra treats such as lettuce, fruit and hay.
Raising quail is similar to chickens, but with a few differences. Quail are much smaller, so their eggs are small (but high in nutrients) and they require less space. Quail are also great for meat. We hatched 12 eggs right here on the farm!
Geese are the newest animal on the farm in 2024. Unlike ducks, geese are herbivores. They love to eat grasses and hay. When people walk up, they love to honk loud to get your attention (and maybe a treat). Geese are friendly, affectionate and also great at protecting our other flocks.
Mac is our 3 year old Mullins Feist. His breed is a top-notch squirrel hunting breed. Mac loves running and hunting, so we have to keep him close to the house. He loves attention and taking naps on the couch.
Tiger is a true farm cat. He loves to follow us all over the farm from checking the animals in the pasture to planting pumpkins in the field. He loves getting all the attention from our visitors!
